Philip Efron, M.D., FACS, FCCM

Philip Efron, M.D., FACS, FCCM, an associate professor of surgery and anesthesiology in the University of Florida College of Medicine, has been appointed to the Surgery, Anesthesiology and Trauma Study Section, Center for Scientific Review at the National Institutes of Health, or NIH.

In his new role, Efron will help review grant applications submitted to the NIH, make recommendations on these applications to the appropriate NIH national advisory council or board and survey the status of research in his field of science.

Members are selected based on demonstrated competence and achievement in their areas of expertise, including quality of research accomplishments, publications in scientific journals and other significant scientific activities, achievements and honors.

Efron, also the medical director of the UF Health Shands Hospital cardiac and surgical intensive care units and respiratory therapy and co-director of the Laboratory of Inflammation Biology and Surgical Science, focuses his research on inflammation and immunology in severe injury and infection.
