SCIRC Connects with the Community at UF Health Tabling Event During Women’s Basketball Game

Last Thursday evening, SCIRC was proud to participate in a UF Health community outreach tabling event during the Florida Gators women’s basketball home game against the Texas Longhorns women’s basketball at the Stephen C. O’Connell Center on the campus of the University of Florida.

The high energy game atmosphere provided a valuable opportunity to connect directly with students, families, and community members while sharing SCIRC’s mission to advance research, education, and awareness in sepsis and critical illness.Photo collage of the SCIRC table at the game. Event Highlights

  • Engaged with hundreds of attendees before tip off and throughout the game

  • Shared educational materials on sepsis recognition, prevention, and early intervention

  • Answered questions about ongoing research initiatives and clinical impact

  • Highlighted training and career pathways for students interested in critical care and translational research

  • Distributed giveaways to spark conversation and increase awareness

Why It Matters

Community facing events like this help translate our science beyond the laboratory and hospital walls. By meeting people where they are, including at athletic and campus gatherings, we can:

  • Improve public understanding of sepsis signs and symptoms

  • Encourage early action and emergency response

  • Showcase SCIRC’s role within UF Health and the broader Gainesville community

  • Inspire the next generation of clinicians and researchers

The enthusiastic turnout and meaningful conversations reinforced how important it is to maintain a visible presence at campus and UF Health events. We are grateful for the invitation to participate and look forward to future opportunities to engage with the Gator community.

We extend our sincere thanks to UF Health and Marsha Mott for coordinating this opportunity and supporting our outreach efforts.

Thank you to everyone who stopped by our table. Go Gators! 🐊
