The Sepsis and Critical Illness Research Center is pleased to share that Athina L. Yoham, MD has been selected for an oral presentation at the upcoming 85th Annual Meeting of the American Association for the Surgery of Trauma, taking place September 16–19, 2026, in Dallas.
Her abstract, titled “β-Blockade Reprograms Trauma-Induced Changes in Bone Marrow Exosomal miRNAs,” was chosen through a competitive review process, recognizing its scientific merit and relevance to advancing the understanding of trauma-induced immune and molecular responses.
This work explores how β-adrenergic blockade may influence trauma-associated alterations in bone marrow–derived exosomal microRNAs, offering insight into mechanisms that could inform future therapeutic strategies targeting immune dysregulation after injury.
As part of the presentation process, Dr. Yoham will prepare a manuscript for submission to the Journal of Trauma and Acute Care Surgery and may also contribute a visual abstract to support dissemination of her findings.
This recognition highlights the continued contributions of SCIRC investigators to high-impact research at the intersection of trauma, critical illness, and immunology.
